About Rick de Jong

Who is Rick de Jong?

At 53 years of age, Rick de Jong is a husband, father, and grandfather. Rick has been married to Tracey for 30 years. They have two children aged 25 and 28 years old. In January 2016, Rick and Tracey were introduced to the joys of being grandparents when their first grandchild was born.

Having grown up on a small farm in the Fraser Valley, Rick enjoys spending time outdoors. Some of Rick’s favourite activities include walks along the waterfront with Tracey, hiking, and fishing.

Rick’s passion for growing things has led to a career in Agri-business spanning 32 years, working with and helping farmers grow crops. As a crop nutrition specialist and business development manager, Rick’s work experience encompasses sales, marketing, product development, product registrations, and crop technical support.

During his three terms on West Kelowna Council, Rick supported numerous projects and initiatives, such as:

Establishment of the West Kelowna Urgent Care Centre
Westbank Cemetery Improvements
Westlake Road Upgrades

Rick’s Community Service Since Being Elected To Council In 2011

Since being elected to West Kelowna Council in 2011, Rick has represented West Kelowna on several boards and committees, including:

  • First as an Alternate Director and then as a Director at the Central Okanagan Regional District
  • A member of the Central Okanagan Regional District Economic Advisory Commission
  • A member of the Kelowna Airport Advisory Committee

Rick’s Volunteer Community Service

Rick is passionate and cares about the community he calls home. West Kelowna is where Rick and Tracey raised their two children. It is the community where their grandchild is now being raised. Rick’s parents have instilled in him the importance of being involved in and of giving back to the community where one lives. Over the years, he has enjoyed being a volunteer with a variety of organizations:

  • Rotary
  • Westside Youth Soccer
  • Central Okanagan Youth Soccer
  • Big Brothers
  • School Parent Advisory Councils
  • West Kelowna Agricultural Advisory Committee
  • Central Okanagan Area Planning Committee
